Lourdes School of Nursing, functioning under Lourdes Hospital in Ernakulam, was established in 1969 with an initial intake of just 12 students. Over the years, it has grown significantly and now admits 50 students annually. The institution offers a General Nursing and Midwifery (GNM) Diploma, a 3-year program aimed at preparing competent nursing professionals.
The school is affiliated with the Kerala Nurses and Midwives Council (KNMC), Trivandrum, and recognized by the Indian Nursing Council (INC), New Delhi. Upon successful completion of the course, students receive their diploma certificate from KNMC.

AIMS
The basic Diploma course in General Nursing and Midwifery is geared to the health needs of the individuals, family, community and the country at large.
The nurse on completion of this course will be able to:
1. Demonstrate competency in providing health care to individuals, sick or well, using the nursing process
2. Apply knowledge from the humanities, biological and behavioral sciences in functioning as a nurse.
3. Function effectively with members of the health team and community applying the knowledge of human relations and communication skills in her work.
4. Participate as a member of the health team in delivery of curative preventive, promotive and rehabilitative health care service.
5. Mobilize community resources and their involvement in working with the communities.
6. Demonstrate use of ethical values in their personal and professional life.
7. Demonstrate interest in activities of professional organization.
8. Recognize the need for continuing education for professional development.
9. Demonstrate basic skills in teaching patients and giving nursing care to them.
10. Demonstrate basic skills in administration and leadership while working with other members of the health team and community.
11. Assist in research activities.
The General Nursing and Midwifery (GNM) syllabus is a three-year program that covers a wide range of nursing topics, including biological sciences, behavioral sciences, fundamentals of nursing, community health nursing, and more. It is divided into three years of study, with a mix of theoretical subjects, practical training, and internships.

Practical Training: Includes courses in educational methods and media, introduction to research, professional trends and adjustment, administration and ward management, and health economics
The GNM syllabus also includes practical assessments, lab sessions, and internships. The exam pattern typically includes multiple-choice questions (MCQs), practical assessments, and viva voce, with a pass mark of 50% in theory and practical separately.
