Ragging

Any disorderly conduct whether by words spoken or written or by an act which has the effect of teasing, treating or handling with rudeness any other student, indulging in rowdy or undisciplined activities which causes or is likely to cause annoyance, hardship or psychological harm or to raise fear or apprehension thereof in a fresher or a junior student or asking the students to do any act or perform something which such student will not in the ordinary course and which has the effect of causing or generating a sense of shame or embarrassment so as to adversely affect the physique or psyche of a fresher or a junior student.

Anti-ragging

Anti-ragging is a movement that aims to prevent harassment and abuse of students in educational institutions

Anti-ragging initiatives of Lourdes College of Nursing, Ernakulam

  • Anti-ragging committees of the college include representatives from the Directors, Principal, vice-principal, students, parents, faculties, wardens and Police officers. Squads are formed to regularly and randomly check where ragging is more likely to occur, such as, classrooms play area, hospital, hostels and mess hall .
  • The faculties conduct an anti ragging awareness program to all students on what ragging is, the punishments for ragging, and what constitutes ragging. Display anti-ragging posters, slogans,and signboards.
  • The college regularly conducts anonymous surveys to assess the level of ragging in the campus
  • The college displays posters, slogans, and signboards to raise awareness.
  • Complaint boxes are placed in college campus and hostel so that students can file grievances.
  • The college keeps their anti-ragging website updated with information about the committee members, squad members, and monitoring committee members.
  • Contact information of committee members are displayed in the college notice board and website.
  • There are 20 CCTV cameras in the college and hostel campus and adequate security guards for the close observation of students

Administrative action in the event of ragging

  • A first information report (F I R) can be filed by the institutional authorities/victim with the local police authorities.
  • Suspension from attending classes and academic privileges.
  • Withholding/ withdrawing scholarship/ fellowship and other benefits.
  • Debarring from appearing in any test/ examination or other evaluation process.
  • Withholding results.
  • Debarring from representing the institution in any regional, national or international meet, tournament, youth festival etc.
  • Suspension/ expulsion from the hostel.
  • Cancellation of admission.
  • Rustication from the institution for a period ranging from one to eight semesters.
  • Expulsion from the institution and consequent debarring from admission to any other institution for a specified period.
  • Punished with up to two years in prison and a fine upto Rs 10,000/-

Quorum:

The quorum shall be 2/3 rd of the total members.

Frequency of meeting:

Once in a month(first 6 months), then quarterly and as need arises.
