Lourdes College of Nursing, in association with Lourdes Hospital, Eye Foundation Hospital, and CPIM High School Branch, successfully conducted a Free Medical Camp and Health Awareness Session on 18th May 2025 at the Aroor Ammanezham Temple Auditorium. The event aimed to provide accessible healthcare services to the local community while promoting awareness about lifestyle diseases and preventive health.
The medical camp was held from 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM and witnessed active participation from both healthcare professionals and students. A total of five doctors from the departments of Dietetics, Orthopedics, ENT, Ophthalmology, and Family Medicine provided free consultations to attendees. The camp included:Basic medical examinations, Health assessments and screening, Distribution of essential medicines and Referral of patients requiring advanced medical care to respective hospitals. Our nursing students played a pivotal role in the successful execution of the event by volunteering in various areas including: Registration of beneficiaries, Recording basic vital signs and Body Mass Index (BMI), Conducting Glucose Random Blood Sugar (GRBS) checks and Assisting in the distribution of prescribed medicines.In addition to medical services, the students also conducted an awareness session focusing on lifestyle diseases such as:Stroke, Diabetes &Hypertension. The awareness was delivered through a health play, which effectively conveyed important messages to the community. To further emphasize the importance of regular physical activity, a Zumba show was presented, highlighting exercise as a key preventive measure.
The programme concluded at 1:00 PM, marking the end of a highly impactful and well-organized health initiative. The event underscored the ongoing commitment of Lourdes College of Nursing and its partners to community health and wellness. It also provided our students with valuable hands-on experience in public health outreach and patient care.
